The first Preparation Seminar organized by the Pacific Cup organization will cover topics around safety, boat and crew preparation.
- What the Pacific Cup is about
- What sails to bring to cross the Pacific Ocean (a lot of spinnakers...)
- How to select the right crew (less of a problem for double handed boats ;-)
- What to expect at night (squalls, squalls and more squalls...)
- How to organize the watch system on board (it's around the clock until you get to Kaneohe Bay)
- How to stay safe at sea (rule #1: stay on the boat)
- How to be prepared to provide first aid (be prepared for the unexpected and hope it will be 100% fun all the way)
- How to build an emergency rudder (no more racing at this time, but hopefully you can get to land without outside assistance)
- How to communicate at sea (part of the safety requirements)
- How to learn about the weather (the science of positioning your boat in the optimum wind and wave conditions)
- How to bring your boat home from Hawaii (some boats will sail back, others will be shipped back)
- What the options are to insure a boat for an offshore crossing (hoping to never have to use it...)
