It has been exactly 24 hours since we started from Long Beach and we're all very happy with the weather so far... Not only it's been sunny (unusual for the first couple days of a TransPac from what I hear) and windy so the coast is now close to 200 nm behind us.

30 hours since we have started... the Golden Gate is now far behind us... We did about 220 miles in the first 24 hours. It's been a wet 24 hours but today I stripped down in shorts and t-shirt. A little bit on the cool side but it's good to dry up. I'm hoping my foulies will be somehow dry for the night but I doubt by looking at them.

Sailors have a unique opportunity to demonstrate concern and respect for our threatened oceans and their inhabitants.
By signing the Blue Water Charter, each sailor agrees to limit the impact of their sailing activities on the marine environment. But perhaps more importantly, they agree to become an ambassador for the future of the oceans, estuaries, and inshore waters.
Le Flying Fish will use a soft rudder as an emergency rudder for its lightweight, easy to build and repair, and low cost characteristics. We hope we never have to use it but if we have to then we'll be prepared.
Sailors on a Mission participated in the first Pacific Cup preparation seminar and took the opportunity to introduce the fundraising campaign to the attendees. Many sailors personally showed great interest in helping kids and offered support for the campaign.
Pacific Cup preparation seminar
Sailors on a Mission is looking forward to reaching to more Pacific Cup 08 crew members over the next few months. Financial contributions don't have to be big as long as we get many people to give. You can also contribute by volunteering time. Check the 'Volunteering ' menu to find out what skillsets are needed. Feel free to contact Sailors on a Mission with any questions.
A lot of freeze-dried food... because it is light, because it is very easy and quick to prepare; and after few days at sea anything tastes good anyway ;-)
